23 Things and beyond...

Setting and meeting goals are very important to me. I found myself learning so much during this project. I found myself mentoring and teaching others and that made it all the more special.

The RSS feeds were something I knew nothing about when starting the 23 Things. It was exciting to learn about this technology. I feel I am more confident with patron questions as a result.

This whole experience was fun. The concept was easy to follow and I would do this again if given the opportunity. Next up, Beyond 23 things...

Seven and a half habits

I have always found it easy to teach and mentor. That would be fun in any environment that I have knowledge and skills. One the flip side of that is the fourth habit. Having the confidence in myself as a competence and effective learner is often hard. Once I do master the subject, the confidence rises. This is a great way to learn and grow.

NetLibrary

I have had a NetLibrary account, but never felt the need to explore. That will change after completing the 23 Things challenge. I like to hold the book and read it. It is a hard habit to break but I will try to use this tool in the future. It will be nice to try an area of technology previously untapped. I will be one up on the technologically savy 10 year old in the family. Perhaps he and I will learn together? On to the next Challenge.

Podcasts

I added ESPN Radio podcasts to my RSS feeds. This was fun. I had no idea what this was all about. It is fun listening to something that was on the radio earlier in the week.
I found podcasts about knitting, travel, sports and many other subjects. What will they think of next.

YouTube

Love it, love it, love it. This was great fun. I did not like a lot of what I saw at first. I tuned into the television shows and ads from years past. That is when I found my posting. I am a huge fan of I Love Lucy. This is also my favorite all-time episode. Who doesn't like chocolate?

Web 2.0 tools

I chose the travel sites to explore. Travel is my middle name and I enjoy seeing what possibilities are available.
I love the subject headings and I can see this as a tool to help with questions about certain topics.
I find it very interesting how three different sites can bring together so much information. It was also nice to see lists of blogs by subject. This is going to be fun.

Zoho writer

I had no idea something like this existed. I think my nephew uses something like this to send his emails. I will look forward to talking to him about this and perhaps learn something new.

pbwiki

This was so easy to do. I am getting the hang of all this sharing of information. There is so much that can be done with this sort of technology. Favorite sites, travel tips, book reviews...

Wikis

At first when I started to read about wikis, I wondered how useful they would be considering how open they are to spam and other unwanted tampering. I have since reversed my thoughts. I can see many uses for a tool such as this.

I believe it very important to finding and posting information on a local level. We often find the most difficult questions are those linked to county, city, village or even township events. On many websites this type of information is hard to find and even does not exist. I see all of those small pieces of information we often collect on our computers to be a perfect example of a wiki wannabe. Hard-to-find information can be opened up to patrons in the know about events around town. Even those coming to visit from outside the area would find this information helpful.

We could obviously take this a different direction when it comes to internal information that needs disseminated to library employees. An article I read mentioned staff instruction documents placed on wikis.

Wikis are wonderful bits of informantion by subjects both specific and general. The possiblities are endless. Now learning how to create on is on my to-do list.

Library 2.0 Thing 15

I like what Michael Stephens has to say about the new world of librarianship. I love to think of new ways to provide good service to all library users. His last paragraph is exactly how I feel about working in a library. I have included it in my post because he communicates this thought so well.

Librarian 2.0 also listens to staff and users when planning, tells the stories of successes and failures, learns from both, celebrates those successes, allows staff time to play and learn, and never stops dreaming about the best library services.

I like to listen, learn and dream. What a fun time to be a librarian.

Technorati

This was very educational. I found different blogs and websites about travel in Egypt. Many of the hits were not of interest but some were very useful for someone planning a trip in the future. It is funny how people tag different links. What I found fascinating was the most popular blogs and topics listed by Technorati. Now I see how we can tell what is popular.

Bloglines again

I finally figured out how to share my bloglines. Just took a little re-reading and concentration. Now I can share my favorites.

Del.icio.us

I found Del.icio.us a fabulous tool for bookmarking. I can see this as a tool from a personal level as well as a professional one. There are so many websites that individual staff members have bookmarked on different computers, I can see using this tool to find favorites from tagged lists.
From a personal perspective, this will be so cool to mark my favorite sites and keep bibiliographies of books, magazine articles and other favorite pieces of information at my fingertips. Can't wait to start.

Frustrating Rollyo

I finally did it with help from a friend. Much time spent on this Thing but it was worth it in the end. My second love, besides travel, is decorating. Welcome to my Rollyo.

Rollyo

This was a hard one for me. I must have read the blog on Rollyo 10 times. I understand the concept but something is not clicking with me. I will keep trying to plug away at this. In the meantime, try my interior decorating rollyo.

Back to Image Generator

I feel as though I am missing something here. I see such elaborate postings and wonder how I am missing these sites in my tour of the web. Today I feel that I have moved forward because I created the banner at the bottom of the page. One more step in the right direction. Hurrah!

LibraryThing

This was a very interesting assignment. I will try to delve even deeper into this site and create a long list of books. It is fun to see how many people have commented on each title you add to the list.
As I said before, it seems to be getting easier to handle each assignment.

Image Generators

This has been fun and I feel I am learning how to do the 23 things at a faster pace. Making the graffiti wall I put on the blog was not hard at all. I can see so much that I have been missing when it comes to computers and technology. This is definitely something I will go back and look at again. On to the next thing.

RSS Feeds

This has been the most difficult so far to understand. I can see this as a tool the library might want to use on our website. Automatic notification of new titles by subject or author come to mind as well as letting the public know about upcoming events.
I did register at Bloglines.com and I even listed a favorite link on my blog. Subscribing to the feeds took some understanding. I think because there are so many ways to do this that it became confusing.
Onward and upward. Looking forward to the next "Thing."

Flickr and more

I finally did it! I have posted my first picture. This was a challange that I am proud of completing. More fun things to come...

Flickr

This has been a challenge for me. It is fun but I need to concentrate when learning all the new technology.

What a blast to learn how to do this. I love to learn at least one new thing every day and today was loaded with dozens of new things. Looking forward to completing the 23 Things and more...
