Wikis

At first when I started to read about wikis, I wondered how useful they would be considering how open they are to spam and other unwanted tampering. I have since reversed my thoughts. I can see many uses for a tool such as this.

I believe it very important to finding and posting information on a local level. We often find the most difficult questions are those linked to county, city, village or even township events. On many websites this type of information is hard to find and even does not exist. I see all of those small pieces of information we often collect on our computers to be a perfect example of a wiki wannabe. Hard-to-find information can be opened up to patrons in the know about events around town. Even those coming to visit from outside the area would find this information helpful.

We could obviously take this a different direction when it comes to internal information that needs disseminated to library employees. An article I read mentioned staff instruction documents placed on wikis.

Wikis are wonderful bits of informantion by subjects both specific and general. The possiblities are endless. Now learning how to create on is on my to-do list.

Library 2.0 Thing 15

I like what Michael Stephens has to say about the new world of librarianship. I love to think of new ways to provide good service to all library users. His last paragraph is exactly how I feel about working in a library. I have included it in my post because he communicates this thought so well.

Librarian 2.0 also listens to staff and users when planning, tells the stories of successes and failures, learns from both, celebrates those successes, allows staff time to play and learn, and never stops dreaming about the best library services.

I like to listen, learn and dream. What a fun time to be a librarian.

Technorati

This was very educational. I found different blogs and websites about travel in Egypt. Many of the hits were not of interest but some were very useful for someone planning a trip in the future. It is funny how people tag different links. What I found fascinating was the most popular blogs and topics listed by Technorati. Now I see how we can tell what is popular.

Bloglines again

I finally figured out how to share my bloglines. Just took a little re-reading and concentration. Now I can share my favorites.
